Choosing Invisalign makes many patients feel as though they are getting the most freedom with their orthodontic treatment. They don’t have to worry about the brackets and wires that come with traditional braces so it is easy to feel like there is nothing to worry about - and no restrictions when it comes to food.
So, can you eat with Invisalign? Absolutely. You can eat whatever you want with Invisalign because the aligners are removable. The key is to maintain your aligners in a way that will prevent any damage from happening - and potentially cause a delay in your treatment - all while enjoying your favorite foods.
Remove Your Aligners
Always remove your aligners when you eat. They are designed to be strong and reposition your teeth. But what they are not designed to do is handle the force of biting and chewing. This can easily damage the aligners – causing you to have to wait for a replacement. And that costs you both time and money.
Don’t Take Any Chances
Speaking of biting and chewing, you have to be in the mindset that you just are not going to do it - ever - while wearing Invisalign aligners. You may just want a bite of something, just this once. Unfortunately, that is all it takes to ruin your aligner. It may not seem like that big of a deal to pop out your aligners before putting something in your mouth, but it can be an inconvenience at certain moments. Maybe you don’t personally know the people you are with or maybe it is a formal situation. Whatever the reason, if you find yourself here, excuse yourself and remove your Invisalign aligners. Do not take any chances by eating anything at all while wearing them.
Stick to Water
Coffee, tea, red wine, fruit juices, and more have the ability to stain the enamel on your teeth. So, when it comes to your clear aligners, it is important to know that these things can stain them, too. To ensure you keep your Invisalign aligners discreet, you will want to stick to water.
Maintain Your Oral Hygiene Routine
Your teeth are to be housed inside these aligners for, on average, 20 to 22 hours every day. As a result, you need to step up your oral hygiene routine to ensure that you maintain your oral health. To get the greatest results, pop out your aligners to eat. Then, when you are finished, brush and floss your teeth. Only then should you snap your aligners back in place. However, if you don’t have the capability to brush and floss every time, rinse with water at the very least before putting your aligners back in.
Eat What You Want with Invisalign
The good news is that you can eat what you want with Invisalign. Unlike other orthodontic options, there are no diet restrictions telling you what you can and cannot eat. It is just a matter of making sure you remove your aligners every time you eat and keep your teeth clean.
